Darbey + Jack

(October 6, 2019 in Maui, HI)

In this blog post, we hear from a bride who had been dreaming of her wedding day since she was 15 years old. She shares her vision for the wedding, which was held in Maui, and how the natural beauty of the island played a key role in the planning process. The bride also discusses how she managed to stay calm and stress-free on her big day, despite the pressure and excitement that comes with it. She offers her top tip for future brides and shares some of her favorite moments from the wedding.

Darbey looked absolutely beautiful in our Christina gown by Calla Blanche. This is a sheath fit with gorgeous royal lace. The bodice is unlined and features a v-neckline and thick straps. The low back comes into a v-shape and the unlined train creates a dramatic moment for the back of the dress. The light nude color of the underlay makes the ivory lace stand out beautifully for the perfect rustic chic look.

By our real bride, Darbey:

What was the vision for your wedding?

Jackson and I have been together for a little over 7 years now so I have been planning our wedding since I was 15. Once we got engaged, I knew things meant business so I went to work purging my Pinterest boards. It was so much fun to see how my dreams and visions had evolved throughout the years!

Since we were getting married in Maui, I knew that I wanted the natural beauty of the island to be the main focus. We decided to go with a neutral pallet color scheme that would complement the lush greenery and the blue ocean. I also wanted to tie in rich fall colors with gorgeous Hawaiian flowers. During the early stages of planning, we created a Mood Board with our planners that would then be used as the inspiration for our wedding. Our final Mood Board showed a natural elegance with a touch of boho and our wedding day reflected that perfectly!

How did it go the day-of?

Honestly, I would say that our wedding went off without a hitch. It exceeded my wildest expectations! We knew that we were going to need help planning our wedding from someone who lived on the island so after talking with six or seven different planners we decided to use Platinum Weddings Maui (Maui Brides. They are seriously the best!). They knew exactly what they were doing and no detail went unnoticed! After getting our photos back, I was in awe of all of the amazing details and thought that went into our wedding that I wasnt able to fully grasp the day of.

Jack and I decided that we wanted to share our vows to each other privately before the wedding but we didn't want to see one another. We wanted our first looks to be at the altar. So, with the help of our wedding team, we went back to back without seeing each other and shared our vows. I absolutely loved doing this and it ended up being one of my favorite moments of the entire day. It allowed me and Jack to share a moment together in pure bliss before the wedding started. It was very calming for me to be able to hold his hand and be in the moment with him for a couple of minutes. It completely whipped away all of my wedding nerves!

What is your #1 tip to future brides?

My #1 tip for brides is to try not to stress! It is easier said than done I know I wasnt perfect at this! But, you have been planning your wedding for months and now its time to have faith and put trust in all of the wonderful people youve asked to help you on your big day. People arent lying when they tell you that you need to take every moment in because the day flies by. Stressing out about things that are no longer in your control only takes away from your day. Just enjoy and live in the moment!
