Skye + Marquess

(February 23, 2019 in Scottsdale, AZ)

The author of this blog post had a vision for her wedding that was elegant, classic, and timeless. She wanted a black-and-white color scheme, all-white florals, and a sleek all-white gown with little detailing. Despite last-minute weather complications, the day of the wedding was magical. The author's #1 tip for future brides is to get a planner, as it takes the stress off of the details, logistics, and communication of everything.

Skye looked stunning in our Harper gown on her big day. This sheath-fit dress is a crepe material for a sleek and fitted look that is still comfortable all night long. It has a plunging v-neckline with a high illusion to provide support. The back features a beautiful v-shape and the seams accentuate curves. Skye added gorgeous beading from our Liza gown by LAmour for an extra bit of flair and we are OBSESSED with how it turned out!

By our real bride, Skye:

What was the vision for your wedding?

I wanted everything to be elegant, classic, and timeless. I hoped to be able to look back on photos, years from now, and still love what I chose. I knew right away what I wanted: a black-and-white color scheme, all-white florals, and a sleek all-white gown with little detailing. Everyone kept saying Id end up in a gown I didnt think Id like, but I was the opposite. I left the shop with my exact vision!

How did it go the day-of?

We planned for a February wedding, and in Scottsdale thats usually 70-80 degrees, sunny and mild. But we had the COLDEST winter (it literally snowed in Phoenix) in decades. Last minute scrambles to accommodate a previously outdoors wedding, inside, was so stressful! During our rehearsal walk-through, it was hailing. I was so nervous. But I woke up on the day-of to sunshine. I felt so calm. The day of was magic. I kept thinking this is exactly where Im supposed to be. Walking out to see Marquess for our first look was an unreal feeling. He teased me for forgetting to paint my toenails and I couldnt stop smiling in my gown. I also loved seeing all my beautiful best friends (4 of which were middle school friends from Spokane!) getting dolled up by my side. Ill never forget hearing the music and walking down the aisle with my Mom. I still get goosebumps when I hear the song. We wrote our own vows, which meant the world to me because Marquess hates public speaking. We had a traditional ceremony, but kept it short and sweet! Then on to happy hour. We had our wedding party dance into the reception to hip hop, and we walked out as Mr. and Mrs. to a little Wayne song. A mix of tradition and us :)

What is your #1 tip to future brides?

I cant stress enough - GET A PLANNER. Our planner, Andrea Leslie of Andrea Leslie Weddings, took so much stress off of the details, logistics, and communication of everything. If I didnt have her I would have literally forgotten our marriage license and would have forgotten to walk my grandparents into the ceremony. People have told me they dont feel like a planner is worth the cost, but ask yourself honestly as a bride - what is the cost to not have an organized point person? Enjoy your amazing day without the stress of being the bride and the party planner.
