In today's society, weddings have become bigger and more elaborate, often creating unnecessary stress and financial burden for the couple. However, there is a growing trend of couples choosing a simpler, more laid-back approach to their special day. In this blog post, we hear from a bride who had a vision of a stress-free and carefree wedding, without all the extra details that don't matter. She shares how her day went and her top tip for future brides. So, if you're planning your wedding and feeling overwhelmed, keep reading to find out how you can have a fun and carefree wedding without all the unnecessary extras.

By our real bride, Sarah:

What was the vision for your wedding?

We honestly didn’t really have a “vision” for our wedding, we just knew we wanted it to be simple. We knew we didn’t want to go over-the-top with extra details and stress that doesn’t really matter. People think we’re crazy, but we didn’t have a cake, we didn’t do a DJ, we didn’t do any of the games that are normally played, we didn’t do speeches (except my dad really wanted to give an impromptu one), we didn’t do a sit down time for dinner (eat when you’re hungry), we didn’t do decorations or flowers (except our friends decided that couldn’t have that and made some for us), we didn’t do a big wedding party (just maid of honor and best man), etc. We just wanted it to be fun and carefree with our family and friends. The one thing that I did know that I wanted was an awesome dress that made me feel beautiful.

How did it go the day-of?

Oh gosh, the day was perfect and chill just like I wanted it to be. We got all ready at this funky little AirBnB we got on Perry Street and since I didn’t have a big wedding party, I just told all my friends “Come over whenever you want and we will laugh, talk, have mimosas, celebrate, etc.” Everyone just kept saying, “You’re the most chill bride I know.”

We had friends drive me, my maid of honor, my mother, and aunt to the venue where my future husband and guests were waiting. Our photographer got my dad set up for a secret first look which was beyond anything I could have imagined. Then I hid in this little room until it was my time to walk. I walked hand in hand with my mom and my dad. That was important to me to have them both there. Evan said he probably wouldn’t cry seeing me the first time, but…I think his eyes were a little watery. We got married in front of the cutest little plane, with one of Evan’s best friends officiating.

We celebrated all evening. We got a food truck with fish tacos and quesadillas, but also had friends grilling burgers and brats if that didn’t entice someone. It was truly the best day.

What is your #1 tip to future brides?

Oh my gosh! DON’T stress over the little things and the financial burden that can come from wedding planning. I honestly recommend not doing all the extras. That may not be a popular opinion haha but you don’t need a cake, you don’t need flowers, you don’t need this and that. All that matters at the end of it all is you and your husband.

Also, do a first look with your dad if you can. You won’t have regret it.
